Self-Love

Updated: Jun 23, 2020

Before I begin, I just wanted to say that by no means I am an expert in this area as it’s something that I do struggle with occasionally. However, one thing is for sure I understand the importance of self-love and I do my best to practice it in my life.

Are you capable of waking up every single morning and look at yourself on the mirror thinking, “damn you are absolutely amazing?" or are you more the kind of person that is a bit too picky with themselves? It is so difficult fur us to love ourselves now more than ever and I never really can understand why. Maybe it is the constant comparing of us to other people through social media. Why do we always have to be better than the others in something? I am sure that at least once in your whole life you’ve wanted to be the cleverest person in the class or the funniest person in your town. Why are we so obsessed with trying to be number one?

We are all unique for the people who surround us, whom I want to make clear; ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT. Not your Instagram crush or that popular girl at your school. Those who take the time to ask you “how are you feeling” and do not expect the socially accepted answer “good” for an answer. STOP OVERTHINKING. I know how easy this is much easier said than done but at the end of the day you just must do it. Try going for a run or write your thoughts down on a piece of paper or simply scream if you feel you need to do so. The only thing I beg you to do is to remember these words; anyone who has set aside time to read this article deserves everything they want to receive in this world. The fact that you guys are taking your free time to try to become better people is so admirable.

I finally wanted to finish this small blog by giving another small reflection. Self-love contains the word “self” meaning you. Not your parents, not your friends or partners. You. If you do not love yourself, how on earth are other people going to do so? If this is a problem, you have you will have to learn to exercise it. Learn to be alone. Switch your phone off, read a book, go to a coffee shop, and just let yourself think. I promise if you are brave enough to do so, you will notice a difference. Don’t expect other people to love you until you love yourself. Everything starts within yourself.
